3 Dental Issues That Can Be Addressed With Xeomin Therapy

When administered by a skilled and highly trained dentist, Xeomin therapy can successfully, safely, and quickly address a range of dental issues. Whether it’s to manage Bruxism or TMJ disorder, these injectables are effective in alleviating any pain or discomfort while preventing undesirable consequences such as chipped or cracked teeth.

At our Calgary dental clinic, we offer Xeomin therapy to address a number of concerns, including:

1. TMJ Disorder

TMJ disorder causes pain and dysfunction in the jaw joint and muscles that are responsible for controlling jaw movement. When left untreated, it can result in several undesirable symptoms, including:

  • Pain, sensitivity, or soreness in the jaw
  • Limited motion in the mouth
  • Ringing in the ears or earaches
  • Headaches
  • Clicking and popping of the jaw
  • Shoulder, neck, or back pain

These can all be successfully alleviated using Xeomin therapy. Although it may take up to seven days for patients to enjoy the full effects of the treatment, many people experience an improvement in their symptoms after just one or two days!  You may have some slight redness, bruising, or numbness at the injection site, but these will dissipate quickly.

2. Bruxism

Mild Bruxism (clenching of teeth) may not result in any serious side-effects or pain, but severe cases can cause undesirable symptoms including:

  • Headaches and earaches
  • Flattened, chipped or cracked teeth
  • Facial pain
  • Damage to crowns or fillings
  • Tired, tight, or enlarged jaw muscle

To treat Bruxism and minimize any damage to your oral health, your dentist might suggest a custom mouthguard or Xeomin therapy. This injectable can target the muscle groups responsible for grinding, relaxing them and easing any discomfort.

Not only will this eliminate any pain you might be experiencing, but it can also have the added benefit of slimming the lower face for a more rejuvenated appearance.

3. Gummy Smile

If you are feeling self-conscious about a gummy smile (lips that rest high on the gums when you smile), it can be improved with a customized Xeomin treatment. When injected, Xeomin will relax the muscles of your upper lip and limit its rise when you smile, ensuring that your gums remain covered.

Treating a gummy smile with Xeomin offers many benefits, including:

  • Natural and long lasting results
  • You can return to your daily activities immediately after the procedure
  • Results are often immediate with the full effect visible after two weeks
  • It’s minimally invasive and very safe

You will also receive some aesthetic benefits from this treatment. Xeomin temporarily relaxes the muscles, elevating your lip and making it look more voluminous. It will also reduce any vertical lines around your mouth for a more youthful and fresh appearance.
