How Xeomin Therapy Can Ease Your TMJ Pain

Are you suffering from TMJ pain due to grinding or clenching your teeth? At our Calgary dental clinic, we use Xeomin, a neuromodulator in the same family as Botox to ease any discomfort and give you long-term relief.

Teeth grinding (bruxism) is the involuntary clenching or grinding of teeth that usually occurs during sleep. It can be caused by a number of factors, including stress, abnormal bite, missing/crooked teeth, or sleep issues such as sleep apnea.

Some of the signs of this condition include:

  • Jaw soreness or tight jaw muscles and other facial pain
  • Broken, flat, or chipped teeth
  • Increased tooth sensitivity
  • Headaches and earaches
  • Disrupted sleep (for you and your partner)
  • Increased risk of tooth loss

We use Xeomin to target the deeper cause of TMJ pain - the clenching and grinding of teeth - to restore your oral health and promote total well-being.

XEOMIN THERAPY IN CALGARY

Xeomin Treatments for TMJ Pain

Today, Xeomin is no longer just used for fine lines, wrinkles, or crow’s feet. It has been proven to have many medical benefits, and one of these is the effective and long-lasting treatment of TMJ pain and other symptoms of bruxism.

How does Xeomin Therapy for TMJ Pain Work?

Xeomin therapy is fast becoming a popular alternative for the treatment of Bruxism. When injected into the treatment area, it works by relaxing the overused jaw muscles so that they are no longer able to produce destructive clenching and grinding forces.

Xeomin treatment can help:

  • Relieve jaw tension and TMJ pain associated with teeth grinding
  • Eliminate headaches
  • Minimize lock jaw in cases of severe stress
  • Reduce any jaw soreness or discomfort

The Xeomin treatments are very safe, quick, straightforward, and effective. As a non-surgical procedure, it is administered at the dental office and requires no downtime.

How long does one Xeomin treatment take? While this will vary with every patient and depends on the number of injections required (determined by your dentist), a typical treatment will be completed within 30 minutes.

Is the procedure painful? The procedure is minimally invasive and involves injecting the Xeomin into the skin. Patient’s will feel a small prick when the product is injected but cold compacts and numbing creams can be used to reduce any discomfort.

What results can I expect? Most patients will experience noticeable improvement in their symptoms within 3-5 days of the first procedure, although the full effect can take up to two weeks. Although rare, some temporary bruising, irritation or redness around the treatment site can occur.

How long will the effects of Xeomin last? The results of Xeomin are effective and long lasting, but they are not permanent. Typically, a patient will require a treatment every 3-5 months.
